Which supplements should you be taking?


It is generally thought that it is entirely possible to consume all the necessary nutrients you need from a balanced diet.  Unfortunately today the western diet very rarely includes everything that is required for optimum health or to recover from illness.  Therefore taking supplements is always a benefit if you take the right ones.  So which ones should you take?


A multi vitamin/mineral is a great way to ensure you get the right boost in the morning.  A good multi vitamin should contain vitamins A, B, B1, B2, B3 B6, B12, Vitamin C and D2.  Pick one that also contains zinc, chromium, selenium, magnesium, calcium and potassium.    This will guarantee you get all the vitamins and minerals you need to start your day with a lift.


The body cannot produce essential fatty acids on its own.  Therefore they must be consumed in your diet.  These fatty acids help in the formation of healthy cells, hormone production, skin and hair support, breakdown of cholesterol and regulation of blood pressure and clotting.  These can be found in many seeds and dark green vegetables.


Vitamin D is also essential for good health and contrary to popular belief a little time in the sun is very beneficial.    Vitamin D is vital to maintain healthy bones and immunity against cancer and heart disease.  Just thirty minutes in the sun can help although it is not always possible to get adequate Vitamin D from the sun in the UK.  So a Vitamin D supplement is recommended.
